Managing land and soils

Managing Land & SoilsSoil erosion by wind and water is a problem in Northern and Yorke.

It can cost farmers money, blocks roads and railway lines, and even cause health concerns.

Surface cover, maintained with good stock management and minimum tillage, is an effective buffer against erosion.

Land such as sandhills and gullies which seems to erode regardless requires special treatment.

But windbreaks and contour banks can also work against erosion.

The Northern and Yorke NRM Board can support land managers to protect their soils.
