Pest plants and animals are introduced plants and animals that threaten our native species, agricultural systems and human health and safety.
Pest plants and animals can spread aggressively, continuously increasing the costs of agricultural production. They out-compete and replace native species, reducing the functional resilience of our region’s natural environment.
Directly or indirectly, the Northern and Yorke community is affected by degradation due to pest plants and animals.
The Northern and Yorke Natural Resources Management Board helps the community manage the threat of pest plants and animals by providing technical expertise and access to specialised equipment.
The scale of many pest problems often means that a whole of community effort is required.
Individuals and groups are encouraged to become engaged in programs to improve their awareness and understanding of pest threats relevant to their community.
See the Our Stories section of this website for examples of successful coordinated animal and plant control programs involving the Northern and Yorke community.
