Our soils make an enormous contribution to Northern and Yorke's environmental, economic and social prosperity.
They are the basis of our landscape, and they underpin our agriculture.
Soil types and properties can dictate the forms of native vegetation, as well as support their own rich assemblage of organisms.
Unfortunately soil erosion by wind and water is a problem in our region. It affects not only our farming, but also our remnant vegetation, rivers and marine environment.
Our aims are to maintain soil structure, fertility and acidity, and to manage that soil erosion.
As with all natural resource management issues, we can offer information and advice on saving our soil.
Funding is available for erosion control projects such as contour banking, revegetation and windbreaks.
