Grants of $10,000 & $5000 are now available to Australian farmers under the Woolworths Sustainable Farming Program. This collaboration between Landcare Australia Ltd and the Country Women’s Association involves the distribution of $1.5 million to develop, improve and encourage sustainable farming practices and increase the capacity of farming businesses to manage during droughts. It specifically focuses on properties in areas that are declared eligible for ‘exceptional circumstances’ assistance, including the Northern and Yorke region. Irrigators and farming groups are invited to comment on the region’s draft Natural Resources Management Plan. The NRM Plan provides a blue print for managing our regions land, water, biodiversity, marine and coastal ecosystems. Briefings will be held from 24 October – 12 November. Farming groups and irrigators are encouraged to attend the briefings and drop in sessions to provide feedback on the draft plan. The region’s economic viability depends on healthy natural assets such as soils and water and the regional NRM Plan will have major implications for the productivity of the region.
